Teen Summer Program

The Tech25 Teen Summer Program is a transformative, hands-on experience designed to prepare teens for their future careers. Through training in audio production, videography, and the live event industry, the teens gain valuable job readiness skills while connecting with their local history and community.

Guided by experienced Tech25 educators and guest speakers from the arts, media, and community sectors, the teens are introduced to the exciting possibilities within creative and event technology-driven fields. They work with professional-grade audio and video equipment, as well as editing software like Ableton Live and DaVinci Resolve. This comprehensive program takes place in Tech25’s collaborative workspace, with several field trips to local historical and cultural sites.

Program Highlights

Orientation & Training: Participants begin with a thorough introduction to program expectations and an overview of career opportunities in media, technology, and live events. Foundational training includes the science of sound, practical use of audio equipment, and the basics of financial literacy, emphasizing the importance of a paid program in fostering responsibility.

Skill Development: Teens delve into audio engineering, sampling, DJ techniques, and videography principles. They learn to create professional emails, organize digital assets, and manage files effectively on both Mac and Windows platforms. Training also includes filming with a green screen, shot list creation, and storytelling through teen-filmed footage.

Field Trips & Community Engagement: Field trips with instructors to sites like the Fort Pitt Museum and Point State Park allow participants to explore local history while learning to navigate the city using Pittsburgh Regional Transit. Pre-trip research helps them prepare video treatments and shot lists, enhancing their storytelling and technical skills.

Creative Project Creation: Teens apply their knowledge by producing podcasts, songs, videos, and DJ mixes. Advanced sessions on green screen filming and editing encourage creativity and innovation, culminating in a showcase where participants present their projects to peers, staff, and community members.

Professional Development: Workshops on resume building, cover letter writing, and interview skills ensure participants leave the program with polished professional materials and the confidence to pursue future opportunities.

The Tech25 Teen Summer Program not only prepares participants for success in creative and technical fields but also fosters a lifelong connection to their community. By bridging creativity, history, and professional development, the program inspires a new generation of informed, capable, and passionate individuals ready to make an impact in their chosen paths.
